New Delhi, May 23 (ANI): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided not to give former cricketers Kapil Dev, Azharuddin and Kirti Azad the benefit of a one-time payment scheme.The decision on Azad was taken after his protest fast outside the Ferozeshah Kotla ground over what he called financial irregularities in the Indian Premier League. Azad, who was supposed to get around Rs.50 lakh through the scheme, has expressed unhappiness over the way the BCCI and the IPL are functioning in violation of the laws of the land. He had on Monday raised the IPL controversy in the Lok Sabha, demanding a special audit into the conduct of the BCCI and other sports organizations. Azad also said that the recent IPL controversies were adversely affecting India''s image. He also demanded that the BCCI be brought under the ambit of the Right to Information Act. The BCCI excluded Kapil Dev as he had not accepted the amnesty offered by the BCCI following his involvement in the now-defunct ICL. Ex-cricketer and politician Azharuddin was excluded because of his life ban for match fixing. Reacting to the news, Azad said: “If they don''t give me money, can they take away my [1983] World Cup victory, I won''t stop talking about the ills in the BCCI.” (ANI) |
