Mumbai, April 29 (ANI): Hailing the proposal to nominate cricketer Sachin Tendulkar to the Rajya Sabha, people from the political and business fraternity said this step would surely bring some positive change in the country.While interacting with mediapersons on the sidelines of an event in Mumbai, lawmaker Priya Dutt said the performance of a person depends on his passion and the same goes for Tendulkar. "Again I feel its upto each person and you know what each person's passion is and I guess you have to experience it yourself," said Dutt. Echoing similar views, legislator Baba Siddiqui, said capable people should be welcomed to politics, adding that Tendulkar would do justice with his work. "If the youth inside Sachin (Sachin Tendulkar) come out, then it is good and capable people should join politics and they should be welcomed and we can't be judgmental unless they deliver. So, we have no right to be judgmental," said Siddiqui. Simultaneously, businessman Niranjan Hiranandani said nomination of Tendulkar and Rekha would surely prove to be a positive change for the country. "He (Sachin Tendulkar) has not retired, he has become a re-tyre, that means a new tyre. I feel this would be a new beginning for him and he is not that aged that people talk about his retirement. We should be proud if people like Sachin (Sachin Tendulkar) and artistes like Rekha are nominated and should be happy about the fact that such good people want to join Rajya Sabha (Upper House of Indian Parliament) and have the capability to contribute. I feel that if they show interest then there would definitely be a change in the country," said Hiranandani. Apart from Tendulkar, the names of charming veteran actress Rekha and industrialist turned social activist Anu Aga were also proposed as nominated members of Rajya Sabha. Tendulkar, referred as the God of cricket, has scored more than 15,000 runs in Tests and also 18,000 runs in ODIs (one day internationals), and recently during an Asia Cup one-day match against Bangladesh at Mirpur, became the first cricketer to score 100 international centuries last month. Since his debut against Pakistan in 1989, he has amassed nearly 34,000 international runs and claimed his 100th century against Bangladesh this month to cement his place as statistically the greatest batsman. Sachin Tendulkar, who turned 39 earlier this week, is in no hurry to retire and the prolific batsman has refused to rule himself out of the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. India won the World Cup at home last April after a gap of 28 years and will defend their title when the next edition is held Down Under in early 2015. (ANI) |
