|London, July 21(ANI): England captain Andrew Strauss reckons that his team is confident enough to complete their historic climb to become the World No.1 Test team.
Third-ranked England will leapfrog World No.1 Team India in the ICC rankings if they win the four-Test series starting at Lord’s today by two clear matches.
“I think we’re ready to be No 1, absolutely. There are areas to improve so we’re not the finished article, but in our home conditions we back ourselves to beat anyone,” the Sun quoted Strauss, as saying.
“Being No.1 is relative to other sides and I don’t think there’s a team that has been better than us over the last two years. We’ve won seven out of our last eight series and drawn the other.”
“This is a new challenge for us and our ultimate goal is not just to be No.1 in the rankings, but the side everyone agrees is the best side in the world,” he added.
Strauss further admitted that India deserved to be the current No.1 as they have been consistently winning at home and away.
“They have experienced batsmen who have played all over the world. We understand the challenge, it won’t be easy, but we are confident,” the England captain said. (ANI)
