|Sydney, Aug 22(ANI): Former Australia leg spinner Shane Warne has said England cricket captain Andrew Strauss and out of favour star batsman Kevin Pietersen should "punch up" to resolve an ongoing row between them.
Offering quite a fictional approach to the current controversy that dragged down Strauss-led England to a Test series defeat by South Africa, Warne said the issue should never have been allowed to rankle for so long.
The South African-born batsman was not selected for the final Test of the South Africa series over a series of text messages that he had sent to his friends in the South African camp that allegedly attacked Strauss.
While Pietersen has backtracked and offered some sort of apology, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) continue to remain rigid and stand-offish about bringing him back into the national squad.
Warne said Pietersen has behaved in a stupid manner and added that he needs to sit down with Strauss to solve the issues.
“Kevin will be one of the first people to admit that he''s acted in a way that''s been a bit silly and stupid, and I''m sure he''d like to take back a few of his actions,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Warne, as saying.
“If you have to punch each other up around the corner, then do it, get it out of your system, then come back, put your arm around each other and walk out to play together,” he added. (ANI)
