CSA takes first restructuring step as per Nicholson Committee recommendations

London, Aug. 12 (ANI): The Board of Directors of Cricket South Africa (CSA) held a joint meeting with its Steering Committee in Johannesburg to make major progress in implementing the recommendations of the Nicholson Committee of Enquiry.

The move was in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed between CSA, Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) and the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) to implement the letter and spirit of the recommendations contained in the Nicholson report.

"I believe we have stayed close to the Nicholson recommendations and, where we have deviated, it is easily defendable. The legal process is also well on track and the disciplinary hearing of Gerald Majola should be completed by mid-October," Sport24 quoted CSA Acting President Dr. Willie Basson, as saying.

"I was highly encouraged by the cohesiveness with which the Board dealt with these contentious issues and moved the process forward rapidly," he added.

Key recommendations accepted by the Board included restructuring of the Board to consist of 11 members, appointment of an Interim Nominations' Committee to task suitable candidates to be appointed as independent directors and stated that Independent directors will serve for a three-year period while non-Independent directors will serve for three years and can be elected for a second period.

It also stipulated that the chairman of the Board will be one of the independent directors while the vice-chairman will be both President of CSA and of the Members' Forum and will be one of the non-independent directors who will also represent CSA at the International Cricket Council (ICC) and on other international occasions, the report said.

"I am confident that we are on target to implement all our decisions in time for our annual general meeting in October this year," Basson said. (ANI)
