Selectors want Yuvraj back for World T20

Mumbai: Chief cricket selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth on Wednesday praised the fighting spirit shown by Yuvraj Singh after undergoing a treatment for a rare germ cell cancer and said the attacking batsman deserved to make a comeback into the national team.

Srikkanth wants the attacking left-handed batsman back in the side for the ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka. The squad for the mega event in September will be announced later this month. "I believe Yuvraj Singh has started his net practice at the NCA [in Bangalore] which is very good news for all of us,” Srikkanth said while speaking to reporters after selecting the Indian squad for the tour of Sri Lanka.

“A guy who has won [us] the World Cup [2011] should come back. We are all hoping for that. We want Yuvraj back for T20 WC," Srikkanth said.

Yuvraj won the Man-of-the-Tournament award for his stunning all-round display at the 2011 World Cup, won by India at home, before his career got interrupted when he was detected with malignant tumour between the lungs for which he underwent chemotherapy in the US.

Srikkanth said everyone is hoping fervently that Yuvraj will return to the team for the Twenty20 World Cup commencing on September 18 in Sri Lanka. "The very fact that he has got over this particular thing [cancer] and come out of it and started practising shows the positive approach of that man. We are all hoping and keeping our fingers crossed and, by God's grace, we want Yuvraj back for the T20 World Cup," the former India skipper and opener said. (courtesy cricketnext.com)
