| Islamabad, May 23(ANI): Former Pakistan batsman Wajahatullah Wasti has said Imran Nazir could be an inspired selection for the national team during the Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka later this year, and could help them win the tournament. Nazir, who made his international debut against Sri Lanka in 1999 at the age of 17, has been ignored by the Pakistan selectors for the national squad in all the formats, citing his poor shot selection and lack of temperament as major reasons. Wasti, who is Nazir’s coach at the ZTBL team, believes he has worked out on his technique and is a far better player now than he was 13 years ago. Wasti said Nazir’s recent performances in the domestic circuit should have ensured a call up to the Pakistan training camp at least, and believes his batting style could lead Pakistan to T20 World Cup glory. “Imran has performed very well in the T20 format – firstly for the Lahore Badshahs in the now defunct ICL, and in more recent times, he has played important innings for Sialkot Stallions and in the Bangladesh Premier League,” Wasti said. “He continues to be ignored and hasn''t been picked for the national side. The selectors need to take into consideration the format which is suited to a player’s style of play,” he added. “Imran Nazir should be given a chance. His temperament used to be a problem but it has improved a lot and I think he is ready to make a comeback. Imran could be an inspired selection for the T20 World Cup later this year,” he said. (ANI) |
