| A partnership of 131 for the fourth wicket between Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers helped Royal Challengers Bangalore to a five-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab. Chasing a healthy-looking 163 for six, Bangalore got over the line with three balls to spare thanks to the brutality of Gayle (87 from 56) and the finesse of De Villiers (52 from 39). The pair were the only two Bangalore batsmen to make double figures as Parvinder Awana (four for 34) shone, but it was enough to earn the two points. David Hussey had been the mainstay of the Punjab innings, making 41 before he was cleaned up by Harshal Patel. Azhar Mahmood clubbed a late 33 from 14 balls to carry them to what they thought was a match-winning score, despite Zaheer Khan and Andrew McDonald taking two wickets each. |
