| Debutant Richard Levi hit a quickfire 50 as Mumbai Indians kicked off the new Indian Premier League season with a comfortable eight-wicket win over reigning champions Chennai Super Kings. Batting first, Chennai made a good start but were pegged back by a superb spell of bowling from another new boy, Pragyan Ojha, who turned the tide when he took the wicket of Suresh Raina for a top-scoring 36. Ojha's overall spell of two for 17 from his four overs did most of the damage and helped dismiss the hosts for 112, with none of the last five Chennai batsmen achieving double figures. The modest target proved an easy reach for Mumbai, with opener Levi striking a clean half-century off 35 balls before being caught by Doug Bollinger off the bowling of Dwayne Bravo. Levi's fellow opener Sachin Tendulkar had retired hurt on 16 and Rohit Sharma exited for a duck, before Ambati Rayudu and James Franklin saw Mumbai over the line in 16.5 overs. |
